A Weast reportage dating back to March 2013 and focussing on open field oil refinement in the Syrian province of Der ez-Zor. The Syrian army did not control the oil production centers in the east of the country anymore and insurgents, who took control of them, did not have the knowledge to refine it. The only solution, before selling it to the local market (the rest was probably smuggled), was to refine the crude on a very primitive way. Huge areas on the country side were therefore transformed in refineries managed by young men. The rising smoke sometimes made the sun disappear.
